Jean Williams

Tannersville - Jean Williams, 1946-2024, 78, died unexpectedly on Sunday, April 7. She was the only daughter of Doris and Stanley Gilbert Williams. She dearly missed her long-time friend Karen Thiessan, who was like a sister.

Jean was a graduate of SUNY Oneonta and taught at the Hunter-Tannersville school district for over 33 years, retiring in 2001. Jean is survived by brothers Gil and wife Deborah Williams, Janson and wife Melinda Williams, niece Enid Williams and her daughter Kalena Nielsen. Jean was passionate about American and New York State history, and supporter of many community arts organizations.

She enjoyed exploring the Catskills, flower and craft shows, house tours, figure skating exhibitions, and dining out. She was a fine photographer whose flower images were truly beautiful. Jean filled her home with the things she treasured, especially horse-themed items of every description.

Jean was an extremely private but empathetic and compassionate woman who was happiest helping neighbors and friends by providing a sympathetic ear and offering rides to anywhere they needed to go. She will be much missed by her fellow retired teachers, grown-up second and fifth grade students, and all those who benefitted from her care and generosity.
