Helen K. Allers

Helen K. Allers, 91, a longtime resident of Germantown, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie.

Born on July 18, 1929, in Brooklyn, Helen was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Jean (Geissler) Kingston. She married Adolph Allers on July 24, 1954, in Germantown; he predeceased her in 2010. Her brother, Arthur Kingston, and a sister, June Kingston, also preceded her in death.

Helen’s childhood was spent in many communities throughout New York and Pennsylvania, due to her father’s career as a Methodist minister. She graduated from high school in Milford, NY, and went on to earn both bachelors and master’s degrees in Music Education from Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.

Music was Helen’s passion. She was a music teacher in the Germantown Central School District from 1952 through 1968, and then spent the next 50 years teaching private piano and voice lessons. The joy of her life was teaching her hundreds of students over the decades, taking pride in preparing them for, and watching their success in, NYSSMA competitions and her recitals each year.

She served as organist/choir director at several local churches, including Germantown Methodist Church, Catskill Methodist Church, and until March 2020, Germantown Reformed Church. She was a member, accompanist and director of the Treble Choraliers, accompanist for area vocal and instrumental performers, and rehearsal accompanist for multiple community theatre organizations.

Helen is survived by children Nancy Besio, Lagrangeville; Douglas (Marie) Allers, Glenville; and John (Lauryn) Allers, San Jose, CA; grandchildren, Elizabeth Allers, Cara Besio, Andrew (Sophie) Allers, Alyssa Besio, Alex Besio and Myla Allers, and great-granddaughter, Lucy Allers.

Funeral services will be held at the Germantown Reformed Church on Friday, April 16th at 6pm, with a brief time of family visitation following the service.

Due to Covid-19 & NYS Guidelines- masks, social distancing, & capacity limitations will be adhered to during the services. Your patience is appreciated. Thank you.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made in Helen’s memory to the Reformed Church of Germantown.

Arrangements are under the direction of Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook.
