David L. Young

David was born on March 18, 1957, at Lincoln Hospital in the south Bronx, New York. The tenth of twelve children from his loving parents, respected veteran Solomon Young, and Rosa Bell Young. Growing up, David attended Morris High school and took up amateur boxing with the influence of his older brother, Billy (Robert). After the unexpected deaths of his father and two eldest brothers, David naturally became the lead protector of his mother and sisters. He would become the life of every party and a quite the lady’s man. He became a father at the age of sixteen, having two sons, with his first love, the late, Myrtle Ann Moore, then go on to having three daughters. By age twenty-two, David would meet Barbara De Lesline, the mother of his two youngest, of whom he would share seventeen years with in a loving, dedicated partnership. He then gravitated toward a career in hospital and hotel security, as well as carpentry, throughout the rest of his years. David was well known for his hearty laugh, his eloquent way with words, his deep dimples, and having quite the smile. He was the “self-proclaimed “most handsome man he knew”, and the best dressed. He also had countless stories for days he would share with those he loved. He will surely be missed for how funny and charismatic he was. David is predeceased by all his older brothers: Richard, Solomon Jr, Robert (Billy), Benjamin, Frederick, and sister, Lillian. David is survived by his four children Jermaine, Christina, Deslyn, and Tamara. He will be missed by his surviving sisters, Shirley, Roxanne, Charlotte, Linda, and Carol. He leaves behind twelve grandchildren, Danielle, Jermaine Jr, Jamal, Jasmine, Jerrelle, Monay, Hallie, Justin, Jordan, Avery, Jahmeek, and Jermir. In addition to twelve great grandchildren, a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and neighborhood friends. The family would like to thank everyone who offered their prayers and well wishes during this time. Funeral services will be Saturday October 16, 2021 at 3:00 from the Bates & Anderson Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home. Visitation prior to the funeral service will be from 1:00-3:00pm.
