Daniel John Slonina Sr., 65, of Port Orange Fl, formally of Catskill NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 2nd 2023 with his loving family by his side. Born November 21st, 1957 in Brooklyn NY the son of the late John and Marie Slonina. In 1971, Dannys family moved to Catskill NY where he graduated from Catskill High School class of ’75. He worked for NYSDOCCS at Greene Correctional Facility as a cook and retired after 30 years of dedicated service. Beloved father to his two sons, Daniel (Kristen) Slonina Jr. of Castleton and Christopher (Lauren) Slonina of Catskill. Loving Dziadziu (grandpa) of Nathaniel Slonina of Castleton. Brother to Jacqueline Gjergji-Slonina of Catskill. Uncle to Danielle Gjergji of Catskill and Anthony Gjergji of New Jersey. Danny enjoyed sitting back and relaxing with a cold beer, telling stories of the good old days. He was a self proclaimed carpenter, but for some reason he could never quite fix that one “window.” During his retirement, life brought him to Port Orange Fl. His days were spent enjoying the ocean, FaceTiming his grandson, playing shuffleboard, sipping cocktails and hanging out with friends. His infectious smile and even bigger laugh always made him the life of the party. He was wildly inappropriate and had a knack for telling it how it was. His heart of gold and selfless spirit made him the ultimate family man, who always provided everything he could for his family. Danny was truly a character that was larger than life. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorial services will be held Sunday May 6th 2023 from 12-4pm at Traver and McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Hgts., Catskill. Private Interment will be held at St. Patricks Cemetery
