Barbara Centocanti, 92, passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Ghent Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband Americo “Nick” who passed away in 2008. Born March 30, 1929 in Philmont she was predeceased by her parents John and Hazel Hamm Race; her siblings Earl Race, Bradford Race, Vernon Race, Gerald Race, Harriet Rubino and Richard Race; nieces Debbie Rubino and Janice Race Vellman and nephews Bradford Race and David Race. Barbara is survived by many nieces and nephews including Mary Lou Rubino of Columbiaville, Kenneth (Marcia) Race of Livingston, Kathy Race of Greenport, Geraldine Whitney of Delmar, Suzanne (Lee) Haywood of Philmont, Maureen McCabe (Lawrence) of Altamont, James McNamara (Suzanne) of Claverack, Thomas Massetti of Ormond Beach FL and Robert Massetti (Mary Jane) of Port Orange, FL and many great nieces and nephews. Together with her husband she operated the Polar Bar before retiring to Florida in 1978. They enjoyed entertaining family and friends and had many fond memories. The house and dinner table were usually full with guests. Americo cooked and Barbara was renowned for her pie baking. She loved decorating with fresh flowers. Trips to casinos in Florida and Connecticut were favorite activities as well as attending plays at MacHaydn Theatre. In recent years she returned full time to New York and resided with her niece Mary Lou in Columbiaville. At Barbara’s request there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 10,2021 at 10AM. Interment will follow at Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson, NY. The family wishes to thank the staff at Ghent Rehabilitation Center for the care provided. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s/Trinity Church, 429 East Allen St. Hudson NY. Arrangements under the direction of Sacco Funeral Home Hudson, NY.
