CATSKILL — David Schneider upset incumbent Tannersville Mayor Lee McGunnigle by a scant two votes and incumbent Joshua Lipsman climbed past challenger Anthony Proper by nine votes to win the second open trustee seat in Athens.
The Greene County Board of Elections completed the absentee ballot count left over from Tuesday’s village elections and released the official results Thursday.
Schneider defeated McGunnigle by the slimmest of margins, 103-101, in the Tannersville mayoral race, according to the Board of Elections, while, in another odd turn of events, candidates David Kashman and Dylan Legg each won election to an open trustee seat by the identical number of 158 votes.
McGunningle did not immediately return calls seeking comment on whether he plans to challenge the results.
Amy Serrago cruised to victory over challenger David Leggio, 330-102, to win another term as Athens village mayor. In the four-way contest for two Athens trustee seats, Alison Phoenix finished first with 286 votes, followed by Lipsman with 216. As the top two vote-getters they were the winners. Proper was a close third with 207 votes and Gordon Mosher finished fourth with 136 votes.
In Tannersville, George Bain Jr., who ran unchallenged on the Democratic and Republican party lines, polled 160 votes to win the village justice seat.
Official results from the village of Coxsackie have incumbent Mayor Mark Evans easily winning reelection to another term over newcomer Veronica Foley, 375-167, according to the Board of Elections.
In a tight four-way trustee race in Coxsackie, Rodney Levine received 305 votes and Donald Daoust got 289 votes to win the seats. Finishing third was newcomer Cesar Echevarria with 259 votes. Coming in fourth was Christopher Cimento with 217 votes.
