NEW BALTIMORE — Fire companies from four area counties were in New Baltimore on Saturday for the annual Greene County Volunteer Firefighters Convention dress parade.

For a parade that usually sees rain, the weather was perfect for the march on Saturday, with sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70s.

Hundreds of spectators lined the parade route, which included Route 144, Gill Road and New Baltimore Road.

The parade stepped off after 2 p.m., with the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band leading the parade. The lineup included 26 fire companies, several color guards and eight other bands and drum lines.

The parade lasted nearly 90 minutes and ended at town park where a 9/11 ceremony was attended by all. Refreshments and entertainment followed, and awards were given out to parade participants.

n The award for Best Overall Fire Unit in Greene County went to Palenville.

n The best appearing unit with 25 or more members in line was won by Athens.

n The best appearing unit with 16-24 members in line went to Palenville.

n The best appearing unit with 9-15 members in line was won by Haines Falls.

n The best appearing unit with 9-15 members in line went to Hensonville.

n The best appearing Ladies Auxiliary with 11 or more members in line went to Palenville.

n The best appearing Ladies Auxiliary with 8-10 members in line was won by Kiskatom.

n The best appearing Ladies Auxiliary with 5-7 members in line went to Haines Falls.

n Best appearing firematic color guard was won by East Greenbush.

n Best appearing non-firematic color guard was won by Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

n Best appearing overall musical unit was U.S. Marine Corps band.

n Best Appearing overall drum line was J.W. Hoysdrat of Hudson.

n Best appearing fire apparatus, 1-5 years old, went to Coeymans.

n Best appearing fire apparatus, 6-12 years old, was won by Kiskatom.

n Best appearing fire apparatus, 13-20 years old, went to Palenville.

n Best appearing fire apparatus, 21 years or older, was won by Kiskatom.

Saturday’s parade capped a week-long convention, that took place following the cancellation of 2020’s event, due to COVID-19.

State Police provided traffic control for the event.
