EARLTON — A fire Sunday left an Earlton family homeless, Earlton Fire Chief Pat Donovan said Monday.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office was assisting the two residents with finding temporary housing until repairs can be made to their home, Donovan said.

At about 4:37 p.m., Greene County 911 sent the Earlton Fire Department to 207 Sugar Loaf Road after receiving a call from the homeowner that the house was filling with smoke.

When firefighters arrived, they reported a working structure fire and requested mutual-aid assistance from the Medway-Grapeville and Greenville fire companies, Donovan said.

Firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading any further and contained it to a bedroom in the front of the house, Donovan said.

No injuries to the residents or firefighters were reported, Donovan said.

The Greene County Fire Investigation Team is looking into the cause, Donovan said.

Coxsackie Ambulance, Greene EMS and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene. Coxsackie firefighters stood by at their firehouse.
