CATSKILL — A Greene County grand jury is scheduled to be empaneled to hear evidence in the murder of a Catskill man, Greene County District Attorney Joseph Stanzione said Tuesday.

Carrie E. Weiser, 32, of Catskill was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with second-degree murder, a Class A felony, in the stabbing death of Scott O. Myers, also of Catskill, said Steven Nevel, public information officer for state police Troop F.

Weiser is accused of stabbing the 68-year-old Myers to death in his home at 39 West Bridge St. in the village.

Stanzione declined to comment on a possible motive or talk about the murder weapon until the grand jury first hears the evidence.

Weiser has been held in the Greene County Jail without bail since her arrest. She is scheduled to appear in Catskill Town Court on Friday morning.

“That appearance may change, depending on what the grand jury decides on Thursday,” Stanzione said. “If the grand jury indicts Weiser, the case will automatically move to Greene County Court.”

Police responded to Myers’ home at about 12:31 a.m. Saturday after they received a report of a stabbing.

When they arrived, they found Myers and began performing life-saving measures on him. They were unsuccessful and Myers died from his wounds at the scene, Nevel said.

Weiser and Myers were known to each other, Nevel said, but offered no other details.

The case remains under investigation, Nevel said.

The nature of the relationship between Weiser and Myers remained unclear Tuesday.

“We’re still trying to find out how they knew each other,” Stanzione said.

Police tape surrounded the home on Saturday morning while the investigation took place.

The investigation was conducted by state police at Catskill, Catskill police, Greene County District Attorney’s Office, Greene County Sheriff’s Office, state police Troop F Forensic Identification Unit and the state police Troop F Computer Crimes Unit.

Saturday’s murder was the second homicide committed with a blade in the village in the past three months.

On Aug. 22, Adam White, 28, of Catskill was stabbed to death at his residence at 31 Summit Avenue.

Michael J. White, 30, of Catskill and Jeffrey Field, 33, of Cairo were both charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing. Their cases have not gone to court at the present time.

Following the news of Myers death, Hundreds of friends and acquaintances posted tributes and positive words on social media about the Catskill man.

“He had quite a bit of problems with the legal system and his divorce,” said Peter Labermeier, who considered himself a good friend of Myers, and attended Antioch College with him in the 1970s.

“He really had a tough time out there but he was always like a champion for humanity,” Labermeier said. “He was a very complicated individual but he was a thoughtful peaceful and philosophical person.”
