CATSKILL — Jeffrey Field of Cairo was indicted Wednesday in the Aug. 22 stabbing death of Adam White, Greene County District Attorney Joseph Stanzione said in a statement.
A Greene County grand jury found enough evidence to accuse Field, 33, of second-degree murder. White, 28, of Catskill, was pronounced dead at the scene outside of 31 Summit Ave., in the village.
Field and Michael White — who is not related to Adam White — attacked Field and Christopher Gere, 29, of Cairo, on Aug. 22, according to a prepared statement from Stanzione.
Stanzione said he would have no further comment on the case Wednesday.
Field allegedly stabbed Adam White in the chest and back, and according to Forensic Pathology Specialist Dr. Jeffrey Hubbard of Albany, the stab wounds penetrated the heart and spleen, resulting in Adam White’s death.
Field was also charged with the attempted murder of Gere. According to Stanzione, Field stabbed Gere in the back after stabbing Adam White, but Gere survived and was treated at Albany Medical Center.
The grand jury is continuing its investigation into the conduct of Michael White, according to Stanzione.
After allegedly attacking Adam White and Gere, Field drove to the town of Greenfield, where he is accused of committing two home invasions and stealing a vehicle.
Field crashed the stolen vehicle during a police chase and sustained serious injuries. He is being treated at Albany Medical Center. Field will be arraigned as soon as he is medically able, according to Stanzione.
On Aug. 22 at about 1:30 a.m., Catskill Police and Town of Catskill Ambulance were sent by Greene County 911 to the area of 31 Summit Ave., after receiving reports that an assault took place and there were injuries.
Police arrived at the scene and found two male victims. One unidentified man was taken to Albany Medical Center with a stab wound to his back. Adam White died at the scene.
Michael J. White was arrested at 10:25 p.m. Sunday and charged with murder following an investigation by state police, Catskill police and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
White was arraigned in Town of Catskill Court and was turned over to the custody of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, where he was held without bail, Steven Nevel, public information officer for state police Troop F, said.
