Two people were injured on Sunday in two separate accidents in Columbia County.

At about 1:31 a.m., Columbia County 911 sent Philmont Fire Company and Greenport Rescue Squad to an area near 2017 county Route 11 in Claverack after receiving reports that a car struck a utility pole and rolled over down an embankment.

Firefighters arrived and found the vehicle with two occupants. Paramedics evaluated both at the scene. An unidentified 18-year-old woman was taken to Columbia Memorial Health with non-life-threatening injuries. A second person refused medical treatment.

A Life Net helicopter was placed on stand-by, but was not needed.

Fire police closed County Route 11 at Preusser Road.

The car was towed from the scene.

New York State Electric and Gas responded to replace the pole.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office investigated. They were assisted by state police.

The road was reopened and all firefighters were back in service at 3:24 a.m.

The second accident occurred at about 9:02 p.m. in Greenport.

Columbia County 911 sent Greenport Fire Department and Greenport Rescue Squad to 127 Mt. Merino Road after receiving reports that a car had rolled over.

When firefighters arrived, they found the car in the middle of the road.

Paramedics treated the unidentified man, who complained of head pain. He was brought to Columbia Memorial Health with non-life-threatening injuries.

A Life Net helicopter was placed on stand-by, but was not needed.

Mt. Merino Road was closed while crews worked.

The car was towed from the scene.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office investigated.

All firefighters were back in service at 10:34 p.m.
