CLAVERACK — Two men were taken to area hospitals following a two-car accident in Claverack on Wednesday.

The crash happened on Route 23, at the entrance to the northbound lanes of the Taconic State Parkway.

John Lange, 76, of Ghent, was taken to Columbia Memorial Health, and Richard Hotaling, 78, of Hillsdale was taken to Albany Medical Center, said Beau Duffy, director of information for state police.

The extent of their injuries was not immediately available.

At about 4:58 p.m., Columbia County 911 sent Craryville Fire Company and Community Rescue Squad to the scene.

The preliminary investigation into the crash determined that a 2016 Subaru being driven by Lange collided with a 2012 Dodge pickup truck being driven by Hotaling, Duffy said.

Route 23 was down to one lane of alternating traffic while crews worked.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

State police investigated. They were assisted by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, Duffy said.

All firefighters were back in service at 5:44 p.m.
