CLAVERACK —Two people were taken to Albany Medical Center — one by helicopter — following a one-car accident on the Taconic State Parkway on Monday night.

The names of those involved were not immediately available from police.

At about 6:34 p.m., Columbia County 911 sent Churchtown Fire Company and Greenport Rescue Squad to the scene after receiving reports that a car traveling north went off the right side of the road, rolled over and down an embankment.

An unidentified man was able to get out of the car before emergency crews arrived, fire officials said.

An unidentified woman required assistance in getting out of the car. She was airlifted to Albany Medical Center with a head injury, fire officials said.

The man was also taken by ambulance to Albany Medical Center with unspecified injuries.

Claverack Fire Department responded mutual aid.

Fire police closed the northbound lanes at Palmer Road. Traffic was detoured over Palmer Road to Route 23.

A Life Net helicopter landed on the Parkway, where the woman was placed onboard and flown to Albany.

The car was towed from the scene.

Assisting at the scene were Valatie Rescue Squad and the Columbia County Fire Coordinator’s Office.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office investigated.

All firefighters were back in service at 8:28 p.m.
