NEW LEBANON — Town Supervisor Tistrya Houghtling announced Wednesday the award of a $500,000 grant from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation for upgrade and improvements at Shatford Memorial Park.

Assemblywoman Didi Barrett was among those supporting the proposal with a letter of support.

Houghtling said one of the improvements would be a new inclusive and accessible playground for all residents and visitors.

Among the other improvements planned are: An accessible senior fitness equipment area and associated fitness walking loop; accessible loop trails of varying lengths to accommodate all users; strategically placed benches; new shade trees; and pathways leading to new and existing park amenities.

A Shatford Memorial Park master plan was developed in 2022 under the guidance of the engineering consulting firm of Barton & Loguidice, D.P.C., which included a survey of residents and users.

Shatford Memorial Park encompasses 19.75 acres and has two Little League fields, one softball field, tennis courts and a basketball court.
