Saugerties man charged with rape

Robert Bruno

HUNTER — An Ulster County man was arrested in Hunter on Monday and charged with first-degree rape and first-degree course of sexual conduct with a child, both class B felonies, state police said.

Robert T. Bruno, 58, of Saugerties, was arrested at 3:01 p.m. Monday by state police. The case was being handled by the Ulster County Child Abuse Unit, state police Public Information Officer Steven Nevel said.

Bruno was previously arrested Sept. 4 by Saugerties police and charged with four counts of second-degree rape and second-degree criminal sex act, both class D felonies, and third-degree rape, a class E felony.

The arrest stemmed from an investigation by Saugerties police after the department received a report that Bruno was allegedly having sexual intercourse with a minor, according to Saugerties police.

He was held in lieu of $50,000 bail or $100,000 bond for the September arrest.

The Ulster County Family and Child Advocacy Center assisted Saugerties Police with the arrest.
