KINDERHOOK — A man from Niverville was taken to Albany Medical Center on Monday afternoon after he was struck by a pickup truck and dragged through a parking lot, Capt. Louis Bray of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.
Peter Tyler, 67, complained of all-over body pain and was semiconscious following the accident, Bray said.
Alan Patterson, 71, of Kinderhook, the driver of the Ford pickup, was not injured, Bray said.
At about 2:34 p.m., Niverville Fire Department and Valatie Rescue Squad were sent by Columbia County 911 to the parking lot of Hannaford Supermarket, 2967 Route 9, Kinderhook, after receiving reports of the accident.
Tyler told police he was walking across the parking lot when the accident happened. He was pinned under the truck for a period of time until he was extricated by paramedics, Bray said.
Columbia County 911 attempted to place a LifeNet helicopter on standby, but it was declined due to poor weather. It was snowing heavily at the time of the accident.
No tickets were issued to Patterson, Bray said.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office investigated.
Firefighters were back in service at 2:55 p.m.
