CANAAN — A Rensselaer County man was arrested Tuesday on felony charges that involved a minor, said Eric Barnes, senior investigator with the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Edward Burris, 49, of Nassau, was charged with promoting a sexual performance by a child under 17, a class D felony, and acting in a manner to injure a child under 17, a class A misdemeanor, Barnes said.

During the course of his employment, Burris allegedly committed the acts against a minor under 17, Barnes said.

Police would not specify what the acts were, or where Burris was employed, to protect the alleged victim, Barnes said.

The incident was reported to police on March 22.

The investigation is ongoing and pending due to possible other crimes and victims, Barnes said.

State Police BCI and the Computer Crimes Unit are working diligently on this case, Barnes said.

Burris was arraigned Tuesday in Stockport Town Court before Justice Malcolm Smalley. He was released on his own recognizance, pending his next court appearance, which is scheduled for April 8, in Canaan Town Court.
