GREENPORT — A Columbia County man was lucky to escape injury after his car rolled over on Saturday night in Greenport, Aaron Hicks, public information officer for state police Troop K, said Monday.

Dedarul Islam, 20, Hudson, told police that he was not hurt in the crash, Hicks said.

At about 9:39 p.m., Columbia County 911 sent Greenport Fire Department and Greenport Rescue Squad to an area near 406 Fingar Road after receiving reports of a one-car accident.

Islam was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla east on Fingar Road when he swerved to miss a deer. The vehicle left the road and overturned in a ditch, Hicks said.

A Life Net helicopter was placed on stand-by, but was not needed.

Fingar Road was closed to traffic, until the crash was cleared.

State Police investigated. They were assisted by Greenport Police.

The car was towed from the scene.
