GREENPORT — A man was taken to Albany Medical Center by Greenport Rescue Squad on Monday afternoon after he was stabbed at Hudson Shop Rite, Lt. Louis Bray of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said.

The unidentified man was stabbed in the abdomen, however his injuries do not appear to be serious, Bray said.

The incident took place in the store’s parking lot, Bray said. At about 12:20 p.m., Greenport Police and Greenport Rescue Squad were sent by Columbia County 911 to Shop Rite at 351 Fairview Ave., after receiving reports that a man had been stabbed.

Greenport Police turned the investigation over to the Sheriff’s Office, Greenport Police Chief Kevin Marchetto said.

The incident is being handled as a domestic dispute.

The other party involved in the stabbing, the victim and other witnesses are being interviewed by sheriff’s department investigators, Bray said.

Police did not say the type of weapon that was used. There have been no arrests yet, Bray said.

The investigation remains open and more information will be released when it becomes available, Bray said.
