GREENPORT — A two-car, head-on accident Saturday night in Greenport sent both drivers to area hospitals, Capt. John DeRocha of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
The crash happened on the southern access road from Fairview Avenue to Walmart at about 8:06 p.m.
A car driven by Jonathan Barrett, 30, of Craryville, crossed the center line and struck a car driven by Teta Walker, 45, of Hudson, DeRocha said.
Walker was taken to Columbia Memorial Health by Greenport Rescue Squad with minor injuries. Barrett was taken to Albany Medical Center by Chatham Rescue Squad with more serious injuries, DeRocha said.
Police did not provide specific details on the extent of Barrett’s injuries, but he was admitted to the hospital for treatment, DeRocha said.
Charges are pending against Barrett, but they will not be filed until the investigation is completed, DeRocha said.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office investigated and was assisted by Greenport Police.
The access road was closed for more than 90 minutes while crews cleared the accident. It reopened at 9:40 p.m.
