GREENPORT — A Ghent man was charged with several felony counts including rape after an investigation by state police, Aaron Hicks, public information officer for state police Troop K, said Monday.

Cruz Aguilarsay, 26, was arrested on Friday and charged with three counts each of third-degree rape, third-degree criminal sex act, both class E felonies, and endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor, Hicks said.

The alleged victim was familiar to Aguilarsay and was under the age of consent, Hicks said.

The alleged crimes occurred in Greenport, Ghent and Claverack, Hicks said.

The investigation began after state police in Livingston received a tip, Hicks said.

Aguilarsay was arraigned in Claverack Town Court and was taken to the Columbia County Jail, where he was held on $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court again on March 2.
