GHENT — A Columbia County man has been arrested on felony charges following an assault that ended with another man in Albany Medical Center, state police said.

Park G. Stalker III, 35, of Ghent, was charged with second-degree assault and second-degree strangulation, both class D felonies, and fourth-degree criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor, according to state police.

State police responded to a residence in the town of Ghent on Sunday at around 1:25 a.m. for a report of an assault, state police said.

Their investigation determined Stalker physically assaulted and strangled the male victim, who was known to him, while at the Stalker residence, according to state police.

The alleged victim then fled to a neighbor’s residence to call 911, state police said.

The alleged victim was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital by Chatham Rescue before he was transferred to Albany Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries, according to state police.

Stalker was arraigned in the Chatham Town Court and released on his own recognizance, state police said. He is scheduled to appear in Ghent Town Court on July 6, at 6 p.m.
