Police: FedEx driver charged with rape

Joshua J. Ginyard, 30

MILLBROOK — A FedEx driver from Poughkeepsie is being held in the Dutchess County Jail, accused of multiple counts of rape and other charges, Aaron Hicks, public information officer for state police Troop K, said Thursday.

Joshua J. Ginyard, 30, is accused of picking up juveniles while operating a FedEx vehicle during the course of his work day, Hicks said. He would then take them to a remote location in the town of Washington, where he gave them marijuana. While inside the truck, Ginyard had sexual intercourse and oral sex with one of the juveniles on two separate occasions, Hicks said. He also allegedly forcibly touched another teen inside the truck.

Ginyard was charged with two counts of third-degree rape, two counts of third-degree criminal sex act, two counts of disseminating indecent material to a minor, all felonies, and forcible touching, a class A misdemeanor, Hicks said.

On Aug. 15, state police received information pertaining to a local FedEx driver who had sexually abused several teens under the age of 17.

A subsequent investigation by the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Poughkeepsie barracks led to the arrest of Ginyard on Aug. 17, Hicks said. On that day, Ginyard was arraigned in the Town of Washington Court and released on his own recognizance.

On Aug. 23, following additional investigations, Ginyard was charged with an additional two counts of rape, two counts of criminal sex act and forcible touching.

Ginyard was arraigned in Town of Washington Court on the new charges and taken to the Dutchess County Jail, where he was held on $25,000 bail. Ginyard is scheduled to reappear in Town of Washington Court at a later date.

Additional charges are pending, Hicks said.

Police are looking for possible additional victims. Anyone who believes that they may be the victim of a crime perpetrated by Ginyard is asked to contact Investigator Melissa McMorris by calling 845-677-7372, Hicks said.

State police were assisted in the investigation by the Troop K Computer Crimes Unit, Dutchess County Child Advocacy Center, village of Millbrook Police Department and Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office.
