SCHODACK — A Valatie man has been arrested on additional charges involving a sexual-abuse case that is being investigated by the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office, Kyle Bourgault, public information officer for the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office, said Wednesday.
Heath E. Harrison, 46, was arrested Monday in connection with three additional incidents involving sexual contact with a minor in the town of Schodack.
Harrison was charged with two counts of predatory sexual assault against a child, a felony; three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, a class D felony; first-degree rape, a class B felony; two counts of first-degree criminal sex act, a class B felony; two counts of sexual misconduct and three counts of forcible touching, all class A misdemeanors, Bourgault said.
The three incidents occurred between April 1, 2018, and May 23, 2018.
Harrison turned himself in to investigators Monday and was arraigned in Schodack Town Court before Judge Ryan Mullahy, Bourgault said.
Harrison was taken to the Rensselaer County Jail, where he is being held on $50,000 bail.
At the time of Harrison’s arrest he was out on bail, following his arrests in December for similar crimes in Columbia and Rensselaer counties.
On Dec. 29, Harrison was charged in Columbia County with first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child, a class B felony; first-degree criminal sexual act, a class B felony; and three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, a class D felony, Sheriff David P. Bartlett said.
Harrison is accused of having sexual contact with a child over a four-year period in the town of Chatham and the village of Valatie between 2014 and 2018, when the child was between the ages of 7 and 12 years old, Bartlett said.
An order of protection was issued for the child in December.
The investigation into the Columbia County case began Dec. 9, after the sheriff’s department received a referral from the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office. Harrison was first arrested Dec. 4, when an arrest warrant was executed at his residence by the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, Bourgault said.
Harrison was accused Dec. 4, of having sexual contact with a minor in two separate incidents in Rensselaer County, in Schodack and East Greenbush, Bourgault said.
Harrison was charged in Rensselaer County with attempted criminal sex act and first-degree sexual abuse, both felonies, and two counts each of forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors.
The sheriff’s offices in both Rensselaer and Columbia counties are asking the public to call if they have more information on Harrison. The number for the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office is 518-270-0128 and the number for the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is 518-828-3344.
