CHATHAM — Roadwork on the Taconic State Parkway will close a section of the roadway in Chatham for three days next week, said Heather Pillsworth, public information officer for New York State Department of Transportation, Hudson Valley Region.

The southbound lanes, between Interstate 90 and Route 295, will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m., weather permitting, Pillsworth said.

That area of the parkway is part of the larger work zone where all lanes are being repaved between I-90 and Route 217 in Philmont.

Southbound motorists should follow the posted detour signs that use Upper Caddy Street, Rock City Road, Route 295, and Hartigan Road as an alternate route, Pillsworth said.

The section of roadway to be closed is much narrower than the rest of the 13-mile work zone and would not be safe to close one lane, Pillsworth said.

The work on the more than $11 million project is being done by A. Colarusso & Son, Inc.

Paving crews are working on the southbound lanes and are expected to shift top the northbound lanes in the future.

Southbound traffic is limited to one lane in work areas.

The roadwork is expected to be completed sometime in the fall, Pillsworth said.

Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones where traffic fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in suspension of a driver’s license.
