NIVERVILLE — Quick action by firefighters saved a Niverville home from fire Friday morning.

At about 11:38 a.m. the Niverville Task Force — companies from Niverville, Valatie and Kinderhook, were sent by Columbia County 911 to 158 Herrick Road after receiving a call from the homeowner that there was smoke in the house.

State police arrived at the home first and reported a working structure fire.

Fire officials requested mutual aid assistance from Chatham, Claverack and a Battalion 5 tanker response, Niverville Fire Chief Chris Dedrick said.

Firefighters went to work and the fire was declared out at 12:06 p.m. Dedrick said. Damage was confined to one wall of the home.

The cause of the fire was electrical, Dedrick said. No injuries were reported.

Herrick Road was closed while firefighters worked. Assisting at the scene were: Valatie Rescue Squad, Columbia County Fire Coordinator’s Office, state police and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
