GREENPORT — Both drivers were injured, one seriously, following a two-car accident in Greenport on Tuesday afternoon, Greenport Fire Department First Assistant Chief Mark Taylor said.

At about 3:52 p.m., Columbia County 911 sent Greenport Fire Department and Greenport Rescue Squad to Route 9G, just south of the roundabout, for a reported head-on collision.

The car involved, a Mazda, rolled over after colliding with a DHL delivery van. The Mazda came to rest in the middle of the road. The van was pushed up against a guardrail.

Arriving fire and rescue crews worked to remove the unidentified male driver from the car. He was brought by ambulance to Columbia-Greene Community College, placed on a Life Net helicopter and flown to Albany Medical Center.

The DHL van driver, who was also unidentified, was brought to the hospital by ambulance.

Route 9G was closed between the roundabout and county Route 14 for several hours, while the accident was cleared and investigated.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

State police are investigating.
