Jane M. Fischer Valatie- Jane Marie Fischer, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. She was born on September 22, 1931, in Hudson, NY and grew up on her family's farm where she lived most of her life.

As a child, Jane took dance lessons and would often perform at community events. As an adult her hobbies included walking with friends and grandchildren, sewing, and gardening. She enjoyed making crafts to share with family and friends.

At the age of 17, she began her nursing training in NYC as a fresh-faced graduate of Martin H. Glynn High School. She made many life-long friends during this time and took great pride in being an RN, even in her final days.

She was known for her sense of humor and hearty laugh and could always be counted on for a well-timed, marginally inappropriate joke. At 92, she was a wealth of historical knowledge about the area and times past and enjoyed recounting stories with family and friends.

Trying to sum up Janie in half a page is impossible. She said it best in her final days, "Oh, but we've had a hell of a time, haven't we?!"

She is survived by her children, Douglas (Lisa) Fischer and Krista (Jeff) Richards; grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Grignon, Brad (Savannah) Fischer, and Rebecca (Trevor) Fischer; great-grandchildren, Jaden Grignon, Ethan Grignon, and Ellie Fischer; her brother Wayne (Sally) Heimroth; sister-in-law Lois Bertram; many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents, Marie (Fay) and John J. Heimroth, her brother John Heimroth, and her husband of 62 years, Henry "Bud" Fischer.

She also leaves behind a wealth of friends and neighbors including her lifelong partner-in-crime Joan McNamara, her neighbor Jane Rose who visited daily with the morning paper, and most recently her roommate in Pine Haven, Joyce Fuchs-Shaw.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dick Gagnon of the W.J. Lyons, Jr. Funeral Home, in Rensselaer, for the help and guidance he and his team provided to our family during this time.

A funeral service will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 12:00 p.m.. Relatives and friends are invited and may visit with the family at the church prior to the service from 11a.m. to 12p.m. Burial will follow in the Kinderhook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made in Jane's memory to the Valatie Ecumencial Food Pantry 3212 Church Street, Valatie, NY 12184. Condolence page at www.wjlyonsfuneralhome.com.
