STOCKPORT — The town Planning Board meeting and the public hearing on the proposed Dollar General Market on Route 9 was canceled Wednesday.

The meeting was delayed because the board did not receive any new information from the applicants, said Dan McCormack, Planning Board chairman.

“The whole meeting was adjourned because no one was bringing anything to the meeting that was new,” he said. “They were supposed to revise something, but they had not done that yet.”

The full board meeting that was set to take place Thursday was also canceled, McCormack said.

No vote took place at the board’s public hearing on the project April 11, and the board decided to leave the public hearing open.

Despite Thursday’s canceled meeting, the public hearing on the Dollar General plan has been continued, McCormack said.

The proposed Dollar General would be built on a 4.2-acre piece of land on Route 9 and Crown Court in Stockport, and would include parking, landscaping, utilities, lighting and storm-water management, according to the project’s environmental assessment form.

The store would use town water and would require the installation of a septic tank on the property.

The project has generated strong opposition with members of the community. Over 50 residents attended the board’s first public hearing on the proposed store April 11, and a petition that garnered over 175 signatures from Stockport residents, and 250 signatures from people in the surrounding communities was delivered to the Planning Board the same night.

The proposed Dollar General would be around 12,500 square feet, and would be home to a Dollar General Market.

Accommodations for tractor trailers to complete deliveries to the store would be included on the site, as well as 42 parking spaces. The green space around the store would be used for stormwater management.

The next board meeting is scheduled for June 13 at 7 p.m. at Stockport Town Hall.

The adjournment will delay the board’s decision on the project, McCormack said.

“We’ll hear more about it in June, for sure,” he said. “This puts us back at least a month.”
