ALBANY — Assemblyman Jake Ashby (R,C,I-Castleton) was recently appointed Vice Chairman of the Assembly Republican Conference by Assembly Republican Leader Will Barclay (R,C,I,Ref-Pulaski).

As vice chairman of the Republican Conference, Ashby will be tasked with coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Conference — which includes 43 members from across the state of New York — and working across the aisle to deliver true results for New Yorkers.

Generally, leadership positions within the state Legislature are filled by long-standing elected officials who often have decades of experience. Barclay noted that although Ashby has only been in Albany for just over two years, he set himself apart as a leader in the Conference — making him a clear choice as its vice chairman.

“Since joining the Assembly in 2018, Jake Ashby has quickly demonstrated the perseverance, commitment and talent that make him a clear choice for a position of leadership within our Conference,” Barclay said. “He’s shown the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively, while earning the respect of his Assembly colleagues on both sides of the aisle. I’m pleased to announce his appointment as Vice-Chair of the Republican Conference and look forward to working with him during the upcoming year.”

Ashby outlined his gratitude for being appointed to such an influential position and is excited to get to work.

“I am honored to accept the appointment as Vice-Chairman of the Assembly Republican Conference and am deeply humbled that Minority Leader Barclay and my colleagues from across the state have placed their trust in me to serve the Conference in a leadership position,” said Ashby. “I am eagerly awaiting the start of the 2021-2022 Legislative Session - which is shaping up to be one of the most important legislative sessions in recent history with the multitude of important issues facing our state – and am determined to work every day to continue to earn the trust my constituents, and now my colleagues, have placed in me.”
