Opening and Artist Reception this Saturday, May 13, 6 - 7:30 p.m.
Taking a break from a busy schedule of creating and installing large public artworks around Sweden, Hanna Hedman visits Ornamentum to present a spectacular selection of works for the home.
Swedish artist Hanna Hedman (1980), received her master’s degree in 2008 from Konstfack, Stockholm, combined with studies in the USA and New Zealand.
Initially focused on art jewelry, Hedman’s work has evolved into larger scaled artworks, with large commissions of public artworks to be found around Sweden, and a number here in the USA.
Hanna held her first solo exhibition at Ornamentum in 2009, with wearable sculptures comprised of overlapping arrays of pattern, texture and color, references from the natural world embedded subtly within - themes that remain evident in the largest of her recent installations.
In 2001, Ornamentum presented a large feature of Hedman’s furniture titled Becoming Nature, at Design / Miami. Followed by subsequent showcases of her objects for the home and the wall at Design / Miami and Salon Art & Design, NYC, where her work was met with great excitement and acquisitions.
We are thrilled to welcome Hanna Hedman back to Ornamentum, to exhibit an array of works, both new and from the past two years. Sculptural objects, tapestries and furniture pieces compose a Scenery, a merging of the natural world with the fantastical, where exquisite handwork and attention to detail embody each artwork, whether of laser-cut steel or wood sequins hand stitched onto linen.
