Contributed photoHorseback riding has been used for years as a therapy, giving benefits to people with many different disabilities. It has been shown to improve balance, strength and range of motion, in addition to the emotional benefits of confidence, patience and self esteem. But, what if you can’t physically get on the back of a horse? High and Mighty Therapeutic Riding and Driving Center in Ghent has the answer. A Surehands lift system has been installed to lift riders who would not otherwise be able to get on a horse, picking them up right out of their wheelchair, if necessary, and lowering them safely onto the horse. The staff at High and Mighty has been trained, as well as the horses, to use the lift safely and efficiently. High and Mighty is a 501(c)(3) not for profit, serving people with disabilities, veterans, seniors and others. The Surehands lift is available to help even the most physically disabled riders to reap the benefits of horseback riding therapy. High and Mighty is located at 71 County Route 21C, Ghent. For information, call 518-672-4202.
