CHATHAM — Did you make a resolution to spend more time outdoors this year? Practice mindfulness or meditation? Get in touch with your creative side? Sign up to join CLC’s Nature Journaling group.

The Nature Journaling group will meet quarterly during the course of 2020 at different sites throughout Columbia County. The program delves into the practice of mindful observation through the art of keeping a nature journal that builds over the course of the year.

At this first session, participants will get their journals (you can also bring your own if you prefer), and learn some of the basics of nature journaling. The January meeting will take place 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 18 at the CLC Office, 49 Main St., Chatham. Time permitting, participants will head to Ooms Conservation Area to test out their skills.

“At this first session, we’ll learn some basic drawing and observation skills, provide different methods of seeing and capturing information in nature, and follow some prompts to get comfortable and commence on our yearlong journaling endeavors,” said Hannah Schiller, CLC’s education and outreach assistant. “You don’t need to be an expert, just interested in paying attention to the world around you!”

To register for the program, visit clctrust.org/events. The next workshop will take place May 16 at High Falls Conservation Area.
