SPENCERTOWN — Spencertown Academy Roots & Shoots Concerts presents the nationally acclaimed folk-pop duo The Nields at 8 p.m. Jan. 18. General admission tickets are $25 public, $20 Academy members and $10 students, and may be purchased in advance via www.spencertownacademy.org and, pending availability, will be available at the door.
“I’ve been a fan of The Nields since the late ‘90s when I discovered their CD, ‘Gotta Get Over Greta.’ I’ve seen them in concert several times and while I enjoy their recorded music, their concerts are even better,” said Mike Zdeb, member of the Academy’s Music Committee. “I agree with the Chicago Tribune critic who likened them to a combination of the Bangles, the Roches, and Alanis Morrissette.”
Sisters Nerissa and Katryna Nields are well into their third decade as musical partners. They have released 17 albums, had major and independent record and publishing deals, and performed with The Band, James Taylor, Dan Zanes, 10,000 Maniacs, and the Indigo Girls. Their most recent album, “XVII,” is both their most personal and their most community-minded. Its meditative lyrics express joy in the present and faith in the future. The songs are about the lessons The Nields hope to have learned by midlife — accepting the passage of time and the choices they’ve made, and being thankful for the moments of grace.
