CATSKILL — A scholarship is available to all Greene County Volunteer Firefighters or Auxiliary members who are first year students at Columbia-Greene Community College. The GCVFA and LAGCVFA each donate $125 to the scholarship, which is matched by an independent donor for a total scholarship of $500 which will be dispersed in the present semester.

Criteria for the Scholarship is as follows: Recipient must be a Greene County Volunteer Firefighter or Greene County; Auxiliary member; Junior firefighters are eligible; No age limit; There must be financial need; Recipient must be in their first year of Columbia-Greene Community College; The student must be presently taking a minimum of 6 credit hours; Student must maintain a passing grade with a GPA of 2.3 or above.

A short essay must be submitted titled “Why Do You Think Volunteering is Important.” Be sure to include applicant’s name, address, phone number, date and Student ID on the cover page. A completed Recommendation Form is required from the applicant’s fire chief. If you have received this financial award in the past, you are ineligible to apply again. Contact the College’s Community Foundation office for further information.
