Adult Programs

Memoir Writers Group 10:30 a.m. May 4, 11, 18 and 25. Now meeting on Zoom. Writers of fiction, non-fiction and poetry are also welcome. Call Ilona Garcen at 518 392-1178 for further information. New writers are welcome.

Intro to Small Scale Composting 6:30 p.m. May 6. Jean Bonhotal, Cornell Waste Management, Department of Crop and Soil Sciences will be the guest speaker. Presented by Zero Waste Columbia (ZWC), co-sponsored by Climate Smart Communities of Austerlitz, Claverack, & Columbia County Library Association. ZWC is a citizen volunteer group committed to education and action that can move us towards zero waste in Columbia County. They seek to create a more sustainable and resilient world today and for future generations. Zero waste aims to send nothing to the landfill by reducing what we need, reusing, recycling, and composting whenever possible. Its members are also active participants in town climate smart committees, town councils, and the Columbia County Environmental Management Council.

Authors & Artists Series Ellen Kanner at 3:30 p.m. May 8. Local author Ellen Kanner will read excerpts from her book, Feeding the Hungry Ghost: Life, Faith and What to Eat for Dinner. More than a vegan cookbook, it is seasoned with stories that make you stand up and cheer, and gentle nudges that aim to serve up what we’re hungry for: a more vital self, more loving and meaningful connections, a nourished and nourishing world, and great food, too. She’ll share a seasonal plant-based recipe to bring the message home in a delicious way, a link to which can be found at https://soulfulvegan.com/spring-pea-puree/. Children’s Programs

Preschool Story Time 10:30 a.m. May 7, 14, 21 and 28. Ms. Becky will share a story, song and an activity with parents and children via a Zoom meeting. Contact Becky at kleinr@chatham.k12.ny.us to register and get a Zoom link to the event. For ages 2-5, younger siblings welcome.

Take Home Craft Kits May 10 and May 24. In lieu of in-house programming, the Library will continue to offer craft kits bi-weekly with reading suggestions, obtainable curbside.
