CHATHAM — The Chatham Public Library offers the following programs in November. All programs will be held online. The Library is open for browsing and computer use. Visits may last up to 30 minutes, masks/facial coverings are mandatory. No-contact pick up is available upon request. For information, contact the Library at 518-392-3666 or visit chatham.lib.ny.us.

The Library will be closed on Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans’ Day. The Library will close early at 5 p.m. Nov. 25 and be closed Nov. 26 and Nov. 27.

Programs for Adults

1st Monday Book Discussion 7 p.m. Nov. 2. November’s book is the novel Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead, a literary murder mystery by Olga Tokarczuk, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature. December’s book is the memoir Jell-O Girls: A Family History, by Allie Rowbottom, described as a gripping examination of the dark side of an iconic American product and a moving portrait of the women who lived in the shadow of its fractured fortune. Books will be available for pick up at the Library.

Memoir Writing 10:30 a.m.-noon Nov. 3, 10, 17, 24. Now meeting on Zoom. Writers of fiction, non-fiction and poetry are also welcome. Everyone has a story, share yours. Call Ilona Garcen at 518-392-1178 for further information. New writers are welcome.

Chinese Calligraphy Class 4 p.m. Nov. 17. Artist Jojo Liu leads a beginner’s Chinese calligraphy class from the comfort and safety of your own home. Jojo will teach traditional Chinese calligraphy basics, including how to hold a brush, write basic strokes, and write strokes while standing. No prior knowledge is required to participate in this class, except a passion for calligraphy and/or history. Participants will need the following supplies: calligraphy brush, ink, and paper. Contact the Library to sign up.

Authors & Artists at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 14. Local Author Phil Palladino reads from his memoir, Enjoy What We Have. The title is the answer to the question he and his wife faced: “What will we do if we have 5 or 6 years?” The elaboration of the answer includes travel, parties, weddings, family time, birth, and death, and flashbacks to times of encounter, which equipped them to enjoy life and their time together. This talk will be presented online, contact the Library to sign up to receive the link.

Cookbook Club at 1 p.m. Nov. 19. So many cookbooks, food blogs, and recipe websites, how can you try them all? Join the Cookbook Club! Each month, take on recipes from a different cookbook and meet online to discuss the results. This month is Beyond the North Wind: Russia in Recipes and Lore, by James Beard Award-winning author Darra Goldstein, who will join in the discussion. Readers Theater

The 11 libraries of Columbia County are taking advantage of the virtual landscape by bringing Readers Theater to you. If you are interested in participating in future readings, sign up by calling the New Lebanon Public Library at 518-794-8844.

Craft Kits Nov. 9 and 23. In lieu of in-house programming, the Library will continue to offer craft kits bi-weekly with reading suggestions, obtainable curbside.
