CHATHAM — The Chatham Public Library offers the following programs in December. All programs will be held online, with the exception of the Health Care Navigator. The Library is open for browsing and computer use; visits may last up to 30 minutes, masks/facial coverings are mandatory. No-contact pick up is available upon request. The Library will close early at 5 p.m. Dec. 23 and be closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Programs for Adults

“FDR and the Jewish Question,” a talk by Al Vinck and Linda Bouchey at 2 p.m. Dec. 6. In conjunction with the Chatham Synagogue, the Chatham Public Library will host the online presentation “FDR and the Jewish Question: Did the President Do Enough?” by Roosevelt researchers and Hudson Valley historians Al Vinck and Linda Bouchey. While deemed by many to be the greatest president of the 20th Century, some historians have found FDR’s foreign policy leadership lacking when it came to dealing with Hitler’s genocide of six million Jews. 1st Monday Book Discussion at 7 p.m. Dec. 7. December’s book is the memoir Jell-O Girls: A Family History, by Allie Rowbottom, a gripping examination of the dark side of an iconic American product and a moving portrait of the women who lived in the shadow of its fractured fortune. January’s book is the novel Feast Your Eyes by Myla Goldberg. Books will be available for pick up at the Library.

Health Care Navigator 1-4 p.m. Dec. 10. Navigators assist individuals, families, small businesses and small business employees in Columbia and Greene Counties with shopping for, comparing, and enrolling in quality affordable health insurance, including Medicaid and Child Health Plus, through New York State of Health: The Official Health Plan Marketplace. Navigators can also assist with applying for financial assistance to help pay for coverage. Navigator services are free of charge. These in-person appointments will be conducted inside the Library, with proper social distance, wearing of masks is required. Lloyd the Geek Computer Tutoring 3-5 p.m. Dec. 15. Do you need help with your laptop, smartphone, tablet, or other device? Sign up for a one-on-one online session with tech expert Heather Lloyd. Call the Library to schedule an appointment.

Cookbook Club meets virtually at 1 p.m. Dec. 17. So many cookbooks, food blogs, and recipe websites, how can you try them all? Join the Cookbook Club. Each month, take on recipes from a different cookbook and meet online to discuss the results. This month is The food in jars kitchen: 140 ways to cook, bake, plate, and share your homemade pantry, by Marisa McClellan, who will join in the discussion. The Great Giveback Continues: The Chatham Public Library would like to thank the community for their generous support during our ongoing Food Drive. Staff made five separate deliveries to the Chatham and Ghent Food Pantries, amounting for hundreds of pounds of food stuffs, pet food, sundries and personal items. Due to the success of the community’s donations, the Chatham Food Pantry has arranged to continue the drive and will be making weekly stops to collect donations!
