Catskill High School choral student tapped for All-State

Ava Higgins

CATSKILL — The New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) has named Catskill High School’s Ava Higgins an All-State Alternate. NYSSMA’s All-State Festival showcases only the most talented school musicians from around the state. As an alternate on the chorus, Higgins will be called upon if another singer in unable to participate in the festival. Due to the COVID-19 health crisis, the All-State Festival will be held virtually this year.

Higgins earned the distinction of being an All-State Alternate through her outstanding performance during her 2019 NYSSMA Solo Festival audition. A senior at Catskill High, she is no stranger to such accolades; last year, Higgins was selected for the Zone 9 Area All-State Festival and also performed on stage at Carnegie Hall in February, 2020 with the Honors Performance Series Treble Choir.
