CHATHAM — Chatham Area Recreation Project, CARP in partnership with Friends of Old Pond Trails held an Old Pond Park trails clean-up day on April 24. It was a beautiful sunny day which supported a nice turnout of local families and folks to help out, 27 people in total.

With donations from Ghent Wood Products, Herrington Hardware and ACP Power Equipment — a new wooden bridge was installed to replace an old one which had given way on one of the main trails. A big thank you to the skills and craftmanship of all those who worked on the bridge.

ACP of Ghent donated the use of a chipper for the day which allowed for a huge amount of vines, old logs and downed branches to be cleared and turned to mulch quickly.

The Point, an area on the trail which the locals consider a wonderful picnic spot, had become overgrown with vines and downed limbs. After several hours of folks cutting and pruning it was transformed into a beautiful area with 180 degree views of Old Pond. A thank you to Agway who supported the donation of a picnic table for this spot and Stewart’s for their donation of snacks. If you haven’t explored the trails at Old Pond Park, now is a perfect time to do so, there are many magnificent old growth trees. The restoration of the kayak/canoe dock at the pond last fall makes it a wonderful time to get out on the water to view the beauty.

Chatham Area Recreation Project, and Friends of Old Pond Park thank all of those who came to lend a hand and donated to this project.
