HUDSON - Columbia County American Legion Oratorical Scholarship Program has started. This program is a constitutional speech contest, provides the opportunity to practice public speaking, learn about the U.S. Constitution and compete for scholarship money.

Contest format, there are two parts both memorized. Prepared Oration on any aspect of the Constitution with emphasis on the duties and obligations of a citizen. 8 to 10 minutes. Assigned Topic on a part of the Constitution, selected from articles and sections as listed under assigned topics. 3 to 5 minutes. If you are a student at a public, private or home school and in 9th to 12 grade you are eligible. Contest awards are as follows. Post and County, $100; District, $600; 1st, $500; second through sixth place, $150. Zone, $1,000; first, $800; second, $500; third, Department $6,000; first, $4,000; second and third, $2,500.
