CATSKILL — The 53 Cat ‘n Around Catskill artisan cats are headed back to Historic Catskill Point, 1 Main St., for the Heart of Catskill Association’s (HOCA) annual Cat ‘n Around Catskill auction and gala Sept. 18.

This year marks the 15th annual Gala and Auction and promises to be as much fun as the 2019 Gala & Auction. The COVID virus did slow us down in 2020, but we’re back and ready to celebrate a milestone anniversary. The auction preview runs from 4-5 p.m. The live auction will start at 5 p.m. and conclude when all 53 cats have new homes, (usually by 7 p.m.).

Auction tickets are $25; $5 souvenir wine or beer glass includes beverages for the evening. Tickets may be obtained on the on HOCA’s website, www.catskill.ny.org, using PayPal, or calling 518-943-0989 using a credit card. Tickets may also be purchased at the door, as well as at the Greene County Chamber of Commerce, 327 Main St., Catskill and The Wine Cellar, 212 West Bridge St., Catskill.

The HOCA board every year also selects one special feline as the Raffle Cat. The Raffle Cat this year is No. 9 “Spring Break-Catrina Von Tassel.” by Michael T. Sisak.

During the preview, attendees will enjoy an autumn dinner provided by Sean Meagher, owner of Creekside Restaurant and Bar in Catskill. Adding to the evening’s fun will be Cat’n Around Catskill merchandise, including a graphic Cat ‘n Around T-shirt and 2021 mugs, along with other cat-related items.

A special item, which we hope we will never need again, are a delightful assortment of cat masks.

Heart of Catskill Association has been bringing the Cats to Catsklll every year since 2006, beginning on Memorial Day until Labor Day, where they continue to attract visitors from far and wide. Area artists design and create the colorful cats that have found so many new homes, both locally and as far away as Montreal, Canada and Puerto Rico.

The auction is HOCA’s annual premier fundraising event, with proceeds supporting local organizations.
