JEWETT — Music and Art Center of Greene County, 78 Ukraine Road, Jewett, will hold workshops and courses of Ukrainian folk arts. The curator of ethnography at the Ukrainian Museum in New York, Lubov Wolynetz will conduct two workshops: embroidery for various skill levels from beginner to expert, July 31 through Aug. 4 and traditional Christmas tree ornaments using egg shells, walnut shells, beads, etc., Aug. 7 through Aug. 10. The fee for each course is $75, materials provided. Elena Martyniuk, educational program director at the Ukrainian Museum, will conduct two workshops (two days each) in motanky, traditional, protective rag-dolls using fabric, thread and ribbons. No sewing required, July 31 and Aug. 1 and Petrykivka painting, decorative ornamental painting from the village of Petrykivka, Aug. 2 and Aug. 3. The fee for each workshop is $40. The courses and workshops are open to adults and children 10 and older. They take place at Grazhda 10 a.m.–12.:30 p.m. Materials provided. Those who have children who like to sing may be interested in enrolling them in a two-week fun-filled course in Ukrainian folk singing designed especially for children 4–9. The course culminates in a children’s recital on Aug. 12. The course is conducted by a professional music teacher and choir director Anna Bachynsky July 31 through Aug. 11.
