CAIRO — A Catskill woman was killed Thursday after she was struck by a car while crossing Cairo’s Main Street, police said.

Darla Vincent, 67, of Catskill, was crossing the intersection at Main Street and Railroad Avenue at about 6 p.m. when she was hit by a vehicle operated by Devon Steup, 37, of Cairo, according to a statement Friday from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

Steup was driving east on Main Street when Vincent walked out onto the road in front of the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Darla Vincent was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the accident,” Lt. Adam Brainard with the sheriff’s office said Friday. “We tried several life-saving techniques at the scene, but were unable to resuscitate her.”

Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident, according to the sheriff’s office.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Brainard said. “But there are no pending charges at this time.”

Main Street was closed between Bross Street and Railroad Avenue for several hours Thursday as authorities worked to determine the cause of the accident, according to a statement from Cairo police.

The sheriff’s office is leading the investigation and was assisted at the scene by Cairo police, New York State Police, the Cairo Fire Department, Cairo Ambulance and Greene County Emergency Medical Services.
