William F. Browne III M.D. of Tannersville and Cairo died Saturday, November 10, 2018. He was 75 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, NY to William F. Browne Jr. M.D. and Marie L. (McGrath) Browne. He was primarily raised in Massapequa, NY and educated at Chaminade High School. Dr. Browne served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1968 and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He would later attend the University of Dayton in Ohio and go on to receive his Medical Doctorate from The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine.

Dr. Browne fondly spent his childhood summers in Purling, NY working at the Cairo Purling Roller Rink with his Great Aunt Grace, Great Uncle Bill Schneider, and extended family. He always preferred the solitude of the Catskills, where he could fish in mountain creeks, dive off Shinglekill Falls, and cause minor destruction with small explosives. After graduating from medical school, his good memories of the mountains brought him back to the Catskills to start his medical career in Cairo, NY, where he spent the next 43 years cultivating a beloved family-oriented practice and proudly served as president of the Greene County Medical Society.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Barbara J. (Showers) Browne and brother John Kevin Browne. He is survived by his children William F. Browne IV M.D. and B. Aidan Browne, as well as his devoted daughter Elyse M. Browne. He is also survived by his siblings Brian J. Browne M.D., Peter M. Browne M.D., and Justine M. (Browne) Hager.

Dr. Browne made an anatomical gift of his remains to Albany Medical College. A memorial service is planned for the early summer.
