Titans down Mustangs on court

CRARYVILLE — The Taconic Hills climbed out of a five-point deficit in the third set to blank the Cairo-Durham Lady Mustangs 3-0 in Patroon Conference volleyball action Tuesday afternoon.

The Titans dominated in the first two sets, winning by scores of 25-9 and 25-16, however, Taconic Hills struggled to shut the door in the third set.

Cairo-Durham took their most convincing lead of the match, leading 11-7, before the Titans battled back to claim a 14-13 lead, though that was short-lived.

The Lady Mustangs battled valiantly to force a fourth set, taking a commanding 19-14 lead, before Taconic Hills pulled off an eight-point rally to take a three-point lead, 22-19.

The Lady Mustangs continued to battle narrowing the deficit to one, 22-21, before Taconic Hills shut the door, winning the set 25-23, and taking the match 3-0.

Emma Leipman led the way for the Lady Titans with three kills and 13 aces, Abbey Gajtkowski added three kills and three aces, Hailey Ward chipped in four kills and two blocks, and Hethar Scutt finished with six aces.

Maple Hill 3, Chatham 0

CASTLETON — The Maple Hill Lady Wildcats improved to 3-0 on the season with a 3-0 shutout over Chatham in Patroon Conference volleyball action Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Wildcats won by scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-15.

COLONIAL  VOLLEYBALL

Mohonasen 3, Ichabod Crane 0

MOHONASEN — The Ichabod Crane Lady Riders fell to the Mohonasen Lady Warriors 3-0 in Colonial Council girl's volleyball action Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Riders lost by scores of 11-25, 14-25, and 22-25.

PATROON TENNIS

Catskill 6, Rensselaer 1

CATSKILL —The Catskill Lady Cats captured their first win of the season with a 6-1 victory over Rensselaer on Tuesday in Patroon tennis action.

The Lady Cats improve to 1-2 on the season.

CHVL GIRLS SOCCER

Germantown 6, Doane Stuart 0

GERMANTOWN — The Germantown Lady Clippers blanked the Doane Stuart Lady Thunderchickens 6-0 in the CHVL opener Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Clippers got on the board with 8:26 remaining in the first half, after a Doane Stuart handball led to Emma Howard booting home a penalty kick, to take a 1-0 lead. Germantown piled on with back-to-back goals by Kaycee Hayes and Riley Gibbons to take a 3-0 lead.

The Lady Clippers added three more goals in the second half, two by senior Julia Howard and another by Gibbons, giving Germantown a convincing 6-0 win.

The Lady Clippers outshot the Lady Thunderchickens 22-5 and keeper Kaitlyn Stagno finished with one save.

Germantown improves to 2-0 on the season.

DELAWARE GIRLS SOCCER

Downsville 7, Windham-Ashland-Jewett 1

WINDHAM — The Windham Lady Warriors suffered a bitter lost to open the season Tuesday afternoon, falling to Downsville 7-1 in Delaware League girl's soccer action.

Zelda Adams and Luccia Martucci led the way for Downsville, each netting a hat trick. Emily Brown added a goal in the win.

For Windham, Samantha Kornbrek netted the lone goal for the Lady Warriors.

Windham falls to 0-1.

PATROON GOLF

Maple Hill 11 1/2, Cairo-Durham 1/2

CASTLETON -- Maple Hill cruised past Cairo-Durham 11 1/2-1/2 in Patroon Conference varsity golf on Tuesday at Pheasant Hollow Golf Course.

John Russell shot a 43 to lead Maple Hill and obtain his second sectional qualifying score of the season. Jeff Huskie added a season-best 50.
