Stephen Gurny, 88, of Hudson passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Sunday July 8th at Columbia Memorial Hospital. Born January 9, 1930 in Hudson, he is the son of Ukraine immigrants Dmytro and Mary (Gryglewicz) Gurny.

Stephen was a foreman with the City of Hudson Water Department. He was also employed at Foster’s Refrigeration, Interpace Corporation and Columbia-Greene Community College. Stephen was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, a Life Member of J.W. Edmonds Hose Co. #1, a former member of the Federation of Polish Sportsmen. Stephen was Honorably Discharged from the US Army, serving during the Korean War.

Stephen is survived by his beloved wife Carolyn (Petroski) Gurny, three daughters Catherine Barrett, Nancy (Mike) Maresco, and Stephanie (Dan) Curry, he was a loving “Papa” to 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Stephen was predeceased by two brothers, five sisters, and his son in law Daniel Barrett.

More than anything, Stephen loved to spend time with his family and friends, as he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His good nature, wit and humor were embraced by all who knew him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday July 12, at 10:00am from Holy Trinity St Mary’s Parish in Hudson. Visitation at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home will be Wednesday from 4-7pm.
