Senior Briefs for Sept. 12, 2018

Lebanon Valley Seniors

NEW LEBANON — The Lebanon Valley Seniors will have their annual barbecue at 1 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Shatford Park Pavilion, New Lebanon. Members are asked to bring a dish to share or desserts. There will be a choice of chicken and or ribs. It is important that members who are not signed up yet to call Sheryl at 518-794-9256.

The last trip for this year will be the Boar’s Head Feast on Dec. 3 at Williams Inn in Williamstown, Mass. It includes wonderful entertainment and absolutely fantastic salad, dinner and dessert bars. Cost is $53 to be paid before Nov. 19. The bus leaves New Lebanon at 10:30 a.m. and Stephentown at 10:45 a.m. Call Mary at 518-733-0009 to reserve a seat.

Claverack Seniors

CLAVERACK — The Claverack Seniors will meet at 1 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Reformed Dutch Church, Christian Education Building, on Route 9H in Claverack. The refreshment committee is Frieda VanDeusen, Margaret Jennings, Jim Skoda and Marie D’Amico. Anthony Brahm from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office will present a program on Active Shooter Training.

All are welcome to attend the following trip:

Oct. 16-Lac du Saint Sacrement, Luncheon Cruise, 2 hrs. aftertime in Lake George, $40.

Non-members pay an additional $10 for trips. Pick-ups will be made at the former Town Highway Garage on Route 217 and at the ABShaw Firehouse on Route 23. Payment for trips is due a month before trip date. For information or to sign up, call Debbie Grau, Trip Director, at 518-610-1766.

Tri-Village Seniors

VALATIE — The Tri-Village Seniors will meet at 1 p.m. Sept. 24 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Route 9, Valatie. Guest speaker will be Suzette Booy. She will discuss the Enhanced STAR Program and how it pertains to senior citizens.

The next trip is to Niagara Falls, Sept. 18-20. There are No seats available on this trip. Don’t forget your PASSPORT, PASSPORT CARD, OR ENHANCED DRIVERS LICENSE. The bus will leave St. Luke’s Church at 9 a.m. Sept. 18 and return at approximately 7 p.m. Sept. 20.

The October trip is to the Westchester Dinner Theater to see PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. An epic and passionate tale of murder, intrigue and romance. Lunch: order off the menu. This trip is full. Don’t forget to see Dotty Masten at the Sept. 24 meeting to pay off the remainder of this trip.

The Oct. 22 meeting will be a luncheon from 1-2 p.m. catered by Frese’s Catering Service. Roast Chicken, oven roasted potatoes, salad and dessert will be served. Reservation are required by Oct. 15. Hudson Senior Center

HUDSON — The Hudson Senior Center meets at the Hudson Area Library, second floor, 51 North Fifth St., Hudson. For information, call 518-828-3200. Lunch is served at noon Monday through Friday.

Creative Writing

HUDSON — Hudson Area Library and the City of Hudson Senior Center is offering an extended 12-weeks of Creative Writing, 2:30-4 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 20-Dec. 13.

This class will be taught by author, artist, educator, and social activist Maureen McNeil. The class will focus on discovering the power of the inner self through the practice of daily writing. Students will explore memories, sensory observation, dreams, autobiography, fiction, and poetry and will share a selection of their work. All levels of writers are welcome. A zine of student work will be available at the library and on the library’s website. A final celebration of student writing will be held in the library on Dec. 13. The class is free and open to the public and is wheelchair accessible. Registration is limited, and is on a first come/first serve basis. Senior Day

STUYVESANT FALLS — The Office for the Aging is holding at Senior Day 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at Stuyvesant Falls VFW, 845 County Route 26, Stuyvesant Falls. Festivities to include a picnic style lunch and a DJ. Vendors from health and wellness fields will be there, and if vaccine is ready, flu shots by Department of Health may be provided. If you have medications you no longer need or are expired, the Columbia County Sheriff will help you dispose of these. Make a reservation by calling 518-828-4258.

Story Hour

PHILMONT — The Philmont Public Library hosts “The Grands and the Littles” Story Hour at 3:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month at the Pine Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 201 Main St., Philmont. Bring a kid for reading, music, crafts, and finger play. For information, call 518-672-5010.
