VALATIE — Columbia County Women in Business presents “How Women Rise” with Sally Helgesen at noon Sept. 12 at Winding Brook Country Club in Valatie. Columbia County Chamber of Commerce members and the public are invited to attend.

Helgesen is a best-selling author, speaker and leadership coach. For 30 years her mission has been to help women recognize, articulate and act on their greatest strengths. Admission, which includes lunch and the presentation, is $25 for Chamber members, $30 for nonmembers. Reservations are required. To register and for information, call 518-828-4417 or email

“I’m looking forward to speaking to this talented group,” Helgesen said. “My work takes me around the world and I so rarely get a chance to speak about it to my home community. I expect it will be an enjoyable afternoon with lots of back and forth.”

Sally Helgesen’s most recent book, “How Women Rise,” co-authored with legendary executive coach Marshall Goldsmith, examines the behaviors most likely to get in the way of successful women as they seek to move to a higher level. It became the top-seller in its field within a week of publication and rights have been sold in 12 languages.

Previous books include “The Female Advantage: Women’s Ways of Leadership” and “The Female Vision: Women’s Real Power at Work.” “The Web of Inclusion: A New Architecture for Building Great Organizations,” was cited in the Wall Street Journal as one of the best books of all time on leadership and is credited with bringing the language of inclusion into business practice.

Helgesen has been named Number 18 on the Global Gurus list of top leadership experts and selected as MEECO’s International Thought Leader in Cultural Transformation for 2019. She lives in Chatham.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our members and the general public to learn and gain valuable insights from the world’s premier expert on women’s leadership,” said Amy Kneller of the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce. “Sally develops and delivers leadership programs, workshops and coaching sessions around the globe. She understands the quality of life we have here in Columbia County. We are fortunate that she has agreed to speak to our group.”
