Rochester woman charged with promoting prison contraband

COXSACKIE — A Rochester woman was arrested and charged with promoting prison contraband and criminal possession of a controlled substance after she tried to enter the Greene Correctional Facility to visit an inmate.

Ashley Garcia, 22, of Rochester, was arrested by New York State Police at Catskill on July 9 following an investigation.

Garcia was arrested after a New York State Police K9 officer and New York State Department of Corrections K9 officers found her to be in possession of Suboxone, a controlled substance, as she entered the Greene Correctional Facility to visit an inmate, according to a statement from New York State Police.

Garcia was charged with promoting prison contraband in the first degree, a class D felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor.

She was arraigned in the Town of Coxsackie Court before Town Justice Wanda Dorpfeld and was remanded to the Greene County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 secured bond. She was scheduled to have a court appearance July 13.
